When at First you Don’t Succeed…

Write, Write Again!

No. It’s not a mirage.

I know. I KNOW.

I’ve seen the signs that my mom has been posting around the interwebs:

It’s embarrassing, really.  My nose looks NOTHING like that.

Oh, and I’ve completely seemingly abandoned my blog and all the awesome, supportive bloggers I think are great.

And for that I say, I’m sorry.

I could regale you with a tale about how pirates took me hostage and I spent the last three months stuck in a cave, piecing together a raft from the driftwood and seaweed that washed up on high tide,

or how a rowdy gang of cowboys from the 1950s forced me to be one of them until I managed a miraculous escape involving a bottle of whiskey and a stubborn donkey named Rollo,

but I can’t because neither of those things are true.  Not even aliens were involved.

I’m not a world philosopher (yet), but it seems to me we all (aka humankind aka writers) come upon periods of our lives that are dampened by an internal darkness.

Basically what happened is that I went from this:

to this

Turns out it’s hard to be funny all the time.

But I’m not about to give up.  I DO remember what a joke is!  And I have a sack full of regections the size of my head to share with the world!

So I’m back, if you’ll have me back.  I hope youse do.

I’ve been wondering if maybe I’d accidentally unsubscribed myself from you. Glad to see I didn’t. Been going through the same thing for the past few months, but haven’t quite made my way back. Thanks for the inspiration.

YAY!!!! I’ve been checking here periodically and hoping you hadn’t died in a miserable playwriting accident (those are notoriously under-reported, btw), with no one out there to tell us what had become of you . . . SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK!

As to periods of darkness…well, I read something once that made some sense. Something along the lines that a writer shouldn’t worry about the times when nothing comes. They haven’t “lost it” whatever it is and they aren’t talentless. Many times, like a rich and giving farm plot, a writer needs to lie fallow and just soak up and restock the minerals and rich dirty goodness before the next crop can grow rich and full again. I believe I’m heavily paraphrasing, but you get the gist. She suggested you follow your creative energies and lay fallow for awhile being sure to feed and enrich the soil during that time (lots of reading, exploring, other things not directly related to writing that interest you, etc.).

Either way, glad to see you around again. I’ve not been updating as much as I should either, lots of doctor and dentist appointments lately. I intend to post about it this Monday provided I have the energy and don’t get stuck reading all sorts of fascinating time-sucking websites like I did this past Monday XD

Well thank goodness you have returned from the black hole! My joy at your return reminds me of this bit of verse from Gilbert & Sullivan:

Though your wife ran away with a soldier that day,
    And took with her your trifle of money;
Bless your heart, they don’t mind —
    They’re exceedingly kind —
They don’t blame you — as long as you’re funny!

  26. The Blackheart Poetess says:

Welcome back AG, my Zombie Son! Yes, I am not longer me. 🙂 Missed you terribly.
